New Zealand’s favourite shower

In the 1960's, Kiwis needed a shower that didn't involve juggling the hot and cold taps. The shower mixers made overseas didn't work very well in New Zealand, because they were all designed to work with water supplied at equal pressures. In a lot of New Zealand homes, even up till today,  the pressure of the hot water is considerably lower than the pressure of cold water.

Felton's solution was the revolutionary Feltonmix™ shower valve, which was launched on the New Zealand market in September 1969. The Feltonmix™ shower mixer successfully applied Bernoulli’s Venturi Principle to work on unequal water pressures. Daniel Bernoulli, an eighteenth-century Swiss scientist, discovered that as the velocity of a fluid increases, its pressure decreases. The development team at Felton applied this principle in the Feltonmix™ shower mixer by using high pressure cold water to pull through low pressure hot water.

With its single point installation and ability to smoothly and accurately mix water at unequal pressures, the Feltonmix™ shower was an immediate success with New Zealanders. Development of new generations of shower mixers soon followed. By the constant pursuit of fresh ideas and innovations, Felton continues to establish itself as New Zealand’s favourite shower brand.

To date, there have been more than 1.4 million installations of the Felton shower mixers in New Zealand. That’s about one Felton shower mixer for about every 3 Kiwis!
